Spiritual North India

Where the Ganges Flows

7 Days | Delhi • Haridwar • Rishikesh • Varanasi

A journey through India’s living spiritual traditions.

India doesn’t keep spirituality behind museum glass.

It happens on the riverbanks.

In temples.

In ashrams.

In morning prayers.

In the sound of bells.

In conversations with strangers.

And sometimes, simply in sitting quietly beside the Ganges and watching the world go by.

This seven-day Wanderer108 journey follows the Ganges from the Himalayan foothills to the ancient city of Varanasi, introducing travellers to two very different expressions of India’s spiritual life.

Haridwar. Rishikesh. Varanasi.

Three places.

One sacred river.

And a journey that goes far beyond sightseeing.

THE JOURNEY

Delhi → Haridwar → Rishikesh → Varanasi → Delhi

7 Days / 6 Nights

Travel Style: Spiritual • Cultural • Experiential
Difficulty: Easy / Moderate
Ideal For: First-time visitors to India, spiritually curious travellers, photographers, culture lovers, wellness travellers and anyone looking for a deeper connection with India.

DAY 1 — DELHI → HARIDWAR

The Ganges Arrives

Begin your journey in Delhi and travel towards Haridwar, one of India’s most important pilgrimage cities.

As the city disappears behind you, the landscape gradually changes.

And then you see it.

The Ganges.

Here, the river is still close to the Himalayan foothills.

Haridwar is a place of movement and devotion — pilgrims arriving from across India, temples ringing with bells, flower offerings floating down the river and families gathering at the ghats.

In the evening, experience Har Ki Pauri’s Ganga Aarti.

Hundreds of lamps.

Chanting.

Fire.

The river flowing silently through it all.

This is your first introduction to the spiritual India that Wanderer108 wants you to experience.

Overnight: Haridwar

DAY 2 — HARIDWAR → RISHIKESH

From Pilgrimage to Practice

After a relaxed morning in Haridwar, continue along the Ganges towards Rishikesh.

The atmosphere changes almost immediately.

Rishikesh is known internationally for yoga and meditation, but there’s much more to the city than its wellness reputation.

Explore the ghats, ashrams and riverside neighbourhoods.

Cross the Ganges via Ram Jhula or Janki Setu, depending on access and conditions.

In the evening, experience a riverside spiritual ceremony.

For travellers interested in yoga, meditation or Ayurveda, this is also where we can begin incorporating a more personalized wellness experience.

Possible experiences

🧘 Guided meditation
🕉️ Introduction to yoga
🌿 Ayurvedic experience
🚶 Riverside walk
🛕 Ashram visit
🔥 Evening Ganga Aarti

Overnight: Rishikesh

DAY 3 — RISHIKESH

A Day to Slow Down

Not every day needs a checklist.

Today is intentionally slow.

Wake early and experience the Ganges before the city becomes busy.

Join an optional yoga or meditation session.

Then spend the morning exploring the quieter side of Rishikesh.

For adventure travellers, the day can instead include activities such as white-water rafting, depending on season and river conditions.

For spiritually curious travellers, we can arrange an interaction with a qualified teacher or guide to understand:

  • Hindu philosophy
  • Yoga traditions
  • Meditation
  • The role of the Ganges
  • Ashram life
  • India’s concept of spirituality

The goal isn’t to turn you into a believer.

It’s to help you understand.

Overnight: Rishikesh

DAY 4 — RISHIKESH → VARANASI

Following the River

Today, the journey continues towards Varanasi.

The most efficient option is generally to travel towards Delhi and connect onward by flight, but the exact routing can be personalized depending on the traveller’s arrival and departure plans.

By evening, arrive in Varanasi.

And the atmosphere changes completely.

Rishikesh feels youthful, open and introspective.

Varanasi feels ancient.

Walk through the narrow lanes surrounding the ghats as the city comes alive around you.

And then reach the Ganges.

Tonight, simply experience Varanasi.

No rushing.

No checklist.

Overnight: Varanasi

DAY 5 — VARANASI

The City That Never Forgot

Wake before sunrise.

This is one of the most important moments of the entire journey.

Take a traditional boat onto the Ganges as the sun begins to rise.

Watch Varanasi wake up.

Pilgrims bathe.

Priests perform rituals.

Boats move slowly across the river.

The ghats change colour as sunlight touches the ancient buildings.

And for a few minutes, the city becomes almost completely silent.

After breakfast, explore the old city with a local guide.

Visit selected temples and heritage sites, while also leaving time simply to wander.

Possible experiences

🛶 Sunrise boat ride
🛕 Kashi Vishwanath Temple
🚶 Old City walking tour
☕ Local breakfast
📸 Ghats and alleyways
🪔 Evening Ganga Aarti

Overnight: Varanasi

DAY 6 — VARANASI

Understanding the Eternal City

Today goes deeper.

Instead of simply visiting temples, Wanderer108 can arrange experiences that help travellers understand why Varanasi matters.

Explore the city’s spiritual traditions, cremation rituals, music, Sanskrit learning and relationship with death and rebirth.

A respectful guided walk can introduce travellers to the city’s different ghats and explain their historical and religious significance.

Depending on interest, the day can also include:

Sarnath

Travel outside Varanasi to Sarnath, where Buddhist tradition holds that Gautama Buddha delivered his first sermon after enlightenment.

This gives the journey another dimension.

Hinduism.

Buddhism.

Ancient philosophy.

And a city where spiritual traditions have intersected for centuries.

Return to Varanasi for one final evening beside the Ganges.

Overnight: Varanasi

DAY 7 — VARANASI → DELHI

Leave With Questions

There is no grand finale.

And perhaps that’s appropriate.

Because the best spiritual journeys don’t necessarily give you answers.

They give you better questions.

After breakfast, transfer to Varanasi airport for your onward flight to Delhi.

Depending on your international flight schedule, Wanderer108 can arrange an additional night in Delhi or connect this journey with another Indian itinerary.

THE EXPERIENCE

Two Cities. One River. Two Expressions of Spiritual India.

HARIDWAR

The Ganges as pilgrimage.

RISHIKESH

The Ganges as practice.

VARANASI

The Ganges as eternity.

The journey connects these three experiences into one story.

And that’s what makes this more than a temple tour.

WHAT MAKES WANDERER108 DIFFERENT?

We don’t want to show you “religious India.”

We want to show you India’s relationship with spirituality.

There is a difference.

You don’t need to be religious.

You don’t need to meditate.

You don’t need to believe in reincarnation.

You don’t even need to understand Hinduism.

You simply need to be curious.

Because sometimes the most meaningful travel experiences happen when you encounter something you don’t completely understand.

And instead of judging it, you ask why.

FOR THE CURIOUS TRAVELLER

This itinerary is particularly suited to international travellers who want to experience India beyond monuments and luxury hotels.

You’ll encounter:

Faith.

Death.

Life.

Meditation.

Music.

Ritual.

Silence.

Chaos.

Community.

And the extraordinary relationship between all of them.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR TRAVELLERS

This is a journey through living religious spaces, not theme parks.

Photography, dress, behaviour and interaction with worshippers should always be respectful.

At cremation ghats in Varanasi, for example, photography should never take priority over the dignity and privacy of grieving families.

Wanderer108 guides travellers through these environments with cultural context and respect.

THE WANDERER108 PROMISE

India may not give you the answers you’re looking for.

But it may make you ask questions you never thought of asking.

Walk beside the Ganges.

Listen to the bells.

Watch the sunrise.

Sit quietly.

Talk to people.

Try to understand.

And somewhere between the chaos and the silence, you might discover that spirituality in India isn’t something you visit.

It’s something you experience.

SPIRITUAL NORTH INDIA
